Moldence
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions.

Common questions about 3D scanning, reverse engineering, mold design, contract molding, and the project process.

General

What services does Moldence offer?
Moldence provides 3D scanning, reverse engineering, mold design, plastic injection mold manufacturing, contract plastic injection molding, product development, and quality control / measurement support services.
Where should I start?
You can start by filling in the Project Evaluation form. Simply share your project's current stage, part information, and expectations — our technical team will guide you to the right service process.
Which industries are served?
Automotive, machine manufacturing, defense, medical products, plastic product development, and spare parts production — along with any industrial sector that requires plastic parts or tooling.

3D Scanning

What accuracy level does 3D scanning achieve?
Scanning to ±0.03 mm/m accuracy is achievable under suitable conditions. Actual accuracy varies depending on part geometry, surface conditions, and environmental factors.
What part sizes can be scanned?
From small precision components up to parts approximately 10 metres in size can be evaluated for scanning, depending on project conditions. On-site scanning can also be arranged based on project scope.
Can reflective or transparent surfaces be 3D scanned?
Reflective, transparent, or very dark surfaces can affect scan quality. In such cases, a temporary matte coating may be applied before scanning, or blue laser technology may be preferred — assessed at the start of the project.

Reverse Engineering

Can a CAD model be produced from a part without technical drawings?
Yes. The physical part is 3D scanned and converted to a point cloud, then a manufacturable parametric CAD model is built using software such as Geomagic Design X and Siemens NX.
Which CAD output formats are available?
STEP and IGES are the most common delivery formats. Parasolid, SolidWorks SLDPRT, and PDF technical drawings can also be provided depending on project scope.

Mold Design & Manufacturing

Is DFM analysis included in mold design?
Yes. Manufacturability analysis (DFM) is an integral part of the mold design process. Wall thickness, draft angles, cooling, and gate positioning are all evaluated during the design phase.
What steel grades are used in mold manufacturing?
1.2311, 1.2738, 1.2344 (H13), and S136 are the primary steel grades considered. The appropriate grade is determined by production volume, part material, and surface quality requirements.
Can existing molds be revised?
Yes. Revision, improvement, or technical evaluation of existing molds can be carried out on a project basis.

Contract Injection Molding

Can I have parts produced using my own mold?
Yes. That is the core purpose of contract injection molding. The technical details and production requirements of your mold are assessed at the start of the project.
What machine tonnages are available?
160, 200, 250, and 400 tonnes can be evaluated. The appropriate tonnage is determined based on part size and mold area.

Process & Delivery

How long does a project take?
Project duration varies by service scope, part complexity, and output requirements. Simple 3D scanning or reverse engineering projects may take a few working days, while projects involving mold design and manufacturing require longer planning. Timelines are clarified at the start of each project.
How is technical communication handled during the project?
Our technical team provides updates via email throughout the project. Approval and feedback processes at key stages are clarified at the start of the project.
How is file and technical drawing confidentiality ensured?
All customer technical data, CAD files, and proprietary information are protected under strict confidentiality principles. An NDA (non-disclosure agreement) can be signed when required.
